The Sports Garden at TWG 2022

Feel like an athlete!
The Sports Garden is the venue where visitors will be invited to experience themselves the sports of The World Games, during the 11th edition of the multi-sport event in Birmingham, USA (7 -17 July 2022). Nine international federations have already committed to participating in the demonstration sports programme or offering sport demonstrations during The World Games 2022 next summer in Alabama.

The Sports Garden is a complementary element of The World Games Plaza which is open from 7th to 17th July from noon to 7 pm every day. The ‘field of play’ for visitors will be mainly The City Walk, the new urban park in Birmingham, USA. Attendees will be given the chance to learn and practice several sports at this extraordinary venue.

The following federations have already booked their pitch on the City Walk: Aikido, Air Sports, Archery, Hockey, Flying Disc, Ju-Jitsu, Orienteering and Sumo. The same site will also offer the opportunity for playing or watching e-games in The World Games sports such as Archery, Baseball and Racquetball.

The Sports Garden will be the pastime activity site where everyone can be part of the Games and feel like an athlete. Rashada LeRoy, Director of Ceremonies in the Birmingham Organizing Committee (BOC), describes The World Games Plaza as ‘the epicentre of the Games. It is designed to be a free, family-friendly celebration of this extraordinary sport experience.’

CEO Joachim Gossow, commenting on the demonstration sports programme during the Games, says: "The Sports Garden also enables those of our 39 member federations that are not in the 2022 competition schedule to be a part of the Birmingham edition of The World Games, nevertheless. Practicing our sports is part of the legacy to the city. Visitors can try out new sports and discover them for themselves. The federations will provide information on how and where they can follow up in these disciplines once The World Games are over. We want to initiate a grassroots movement and win new friends and fans for the diversity of our sports.”

The BOC offers all members of The World Games family the opportunity to display and promote their sport and selected disciplines at the Sports Garden. The federations can apply for being on the demonstration sports programme or host sport demonstrations by approaching the BOC directly until the end of January 2022.

The World Games is a multi-sport event staged every four years by the International World Games Association, organised with the support of the International Olympic Committee. The 11th edition of The World Games will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, 7-17 July 2022. 3,600 athletes from 34 sports and over 100 countries will take part in The World Games.
