IWGA publishes List of Candidates for Executive Committee Elections

Election of the new Executive Committee will be one of the main items at this year’s Annual General Meeting of the International World Games Association (IWGA). The representatives of the 39 member federations will elect the leadership team for the term until 2026 on 3rd May 2023 in Madrid, Spain. The IWGA has informed the member federations about the list of candidates and has released it for publication.

José Perurena alone is running for the IWGA presidency. The Honorary Life President of the International Canoe Federation has led the IWGA since 2014, and is running for a third term at the helm.

Tom Dielen (Secretary General, World Archery) and Jörn Verleger (President, International Fistball Association) are standing for election as Vice President.

The only candidate for the position of Treasurer is the incumbent (since 2001) Lukas Hinder (Honorary Life President, World DanceSport Federation).

For the other four places on the Executive Committee, the following are standing for election:

Anna Arzhanova (President, World Underwater Federation - Board Member since 2014)

Volker Bernardi (Secretary General, World Flying Disc Federation - Board Member since 2018)

Jan Fransoo (President, International Korfball Federation - Board Member since 2018)

John Liljelund (Secretary General, International Floorball Federation)

Jose Antonio Perez Priego (President, International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation)

Pablo Serna (Secretary General, World Squash Federation)

Joachim Thumfart (Director General, Ju-Jitsu International Federation)

Retiring from the Executive Committee at the end of the 2018 to 2023 term are:

Max Bishop as Vice President (World Airsports Federation) and Antonio Espinos (World Karate Federation).

The term of office for the new board members is three years. New elections will be held at the 2026 AGM, one year after the The World Games 2025 in Chengdu (Peoples Republic of China). Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the term that had begun in 2018 had been extended by one year to 2023 (one year after The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, USA).

The World Games is a multi-sport event staged every four years by the International World Games Association, organised with the support of the International Olympic Committee. The World Games 2022 was held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, 7-17 July 2022. 3,600 athletes from 34 sports and 100 countries took part in the Games. The 12th edition of The World Games will be held in Chengdu, CHN in 2025.
