Qualifications for TWG 2022 under way

Athletes are busy “booking their tickets” for The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama (7–17 July); eleven qualifying events in eight sports are scheduled for this month alone. In October, two more sports have competitions to determine the best athletes to compete in Birmingham.

Qualifications in the sports of Boules, Inline Hockey and Tug of War were held last weekend, and entries into the IWGA database will be made in the next few days. All qualified athletes and countries can be found on the IWGA website. Further athletes fight for their starting places in Birmingham, Alabama this week: in the World Championships in Archery in Yankton, USA, in Sport Climbing in Moscow, Russia and in Racquetball in Guatamala City.

Qualifications in two other sports (Kickboxing and RollerSports/Artistic) are planned for October. 3,600 competitors from over 100 countries will take part in the 11th edition of the Games next summer. A total of 34 sports are on the programme during the ten competition days.

So far, athletes from 52 countries have qualified for The World Games 2022. The host country USA will send one of the strongest teams, and it is already represented in 42 medal events. In addition to other major sports nations such as Australia, China, Russia, Germany or France, sports fans can also look forward to the performance of their athletes from lesser-known sports countries.

The men's Fistball team from Namibia will make its debut at The World Games in 2022, while Suriname will compete in the Korfball tournament, also for the first time at TWG. Cambodia has secured two spots in the women's boules competition.

Qualifications for The World Games are conducted by the International Federations. One of the criteria is that only the best in a sport or discipline can compete at the Games. Sport Entries deadline is determined for 31 March 2022.

The World Games is a multi-sport event staged every four years by the International World Games Association, organised with the support of the International Olympic Committee. The 11th edition of The World Games will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, 7-17 July 2022. 3,600 athletes from 34 sports and over 100 countries will take part in The World Games.
