A busy month for qualifications

October has been a busy month for qualifications for The World Games 2022! Athletes in as many as nine sports have been fighting for gold at World or Regional Championships – and for tickets to Birmingham 2022. Athletes from 65 countries have qualified for the Games so far.

The World Artistic Skating Championships 2021 were held in Asunción, Paraguay, and we’ll meet the most successful athletes and couples from there at The World Games 2022 when Artistic Roller Skating women, men and pairs perform. Amongst them are The World Games 2017 champion Luca Lucaroni (ITA) and 2017 Pairs champion Italy. The Finswimming World Championships saw many new qualifiers for The World Games and some well-known names too. EkaterinaMikhailushkina, who was only 15 years old when winning two gold medals in Wroclaw in 2017, has again qualified for the Games in both 100 m and 200 m in Surface Finswimming. Mikhailushkina, the fastest female swimmer on earth, was chosen as The World Games Athlete of July 2021 and you can read more about her here. More Finswimming athletes will be added to the qualification lists shortly.

Kickboxing was in The World Games for the first time in 2017 in Wroclaw, Poland as an invitational sport. For this edition it debuts as a sport in the official programme. Qualifications were held in conjunction with the World Championships in Jesolo, Italy and the list of athletes who will fight for The World Games gold has now been published. In three of the six categories there are athletes from the host country, USA.

Country places have been allocated in October in Archery, Boules Sports (Pétanque), Bowling, Canoe Polo and Canoe Marathon, and now it’s up to the countries themselves to nominate the athletes who will compete in Birmingham. What is already known is that Laos will make its debut at The World Games, as the country’s Pétanque women qualified for the Games for the first time ever.
