Korfball – mixed-gender team sport
Disciplines at The World Games 2025: Beach, Indoor
Korfball is a mixed-gender sport played between two teams of 8 (4 women and 4 men) on an indoor pitch. The objective is to score goals by throwing a ball to drop down through a netless basket (a korf) mounted on a 3.5 m pole, from any angle. Each team has four players in each of two zones, two women and two men, and they cannot switch zones during game play. Once two goals have been scored, the teams change zones, with attack players becoming defence players and vice-versa. The players can only defend players of the same sex.
Korfball has similarities to basketball and netball. At The World Games a match consists of four quarters of 10 minutes each. If at the end the teams are tied on number of goals scored, there is a short a ‘golden-goal’ period and if necessary a penalty shoot-out.
The two disciplines Beach and Indoor are very similar, although there are some rule differences.
