Dong and Tu stage a comeback

The World Champions in Acrobatic Gymnastics and Men's Synchronised Trampoline extended their reigns Monday under the magnificent dome of Wroclaw's Centennial Hall. With their second consecutive World Games titles, four-time World Champions Dong Dong and Tu Xiao added another golden chapter to their legendary story. They proved yet again that they are not only the best in the world, but among the best synchro pairs of all time.

Having triumphed in Cali four years ago, Dong Dong and Tu Xiao know what glory at The World Games tastes like. But gold in 2017 was served only after a side of adversity: During the qualification round, Dong made a rare mistake, landing on the boards of the trampoline mid-routine and putting China in the unusual position of needing help from other pairs to assure themselves a place in the final. They got it -- and used their second chance to blitz the field, delivering their usual brilliance for first place.

All change at The World Games

Today marks the midpoint of The World Games 2017. We have been astounded by many exciting and spectacular performances of the athletes in a wide range of disciplines. Most of the early sports such as Sport Climbing, Fin Swimming and Air Sports have already concluded competitions, presented the medals and packed up to go home. In their place we are seeing a new range of activities which are thrilling spectators.

Fans will be astounded by the skills displayed by a top class field in the Water Ski and Wakeboarding. Asian countries will expect to find themselves on the podium for Karate and Billiards Sports. The Orienteering athletes will have to navigate contrasting terrains, sprinting through Wroclaw's city centre and then tackling the forests later in the week. Though the sports and the venues may be changing, the thrills and the drama continue. Keep up to date with the latest news by checking the website, or even better visit the new venues to cheer on your favourite athletes and teams.

British woes

For the British team, the summer of 2016 was a golden time, At the Rio Olympics, the athletes excelled in a range of disciplines, and the national anthem “God Save the Queen” regularly rang out from the Brazilian venues. Apart from the USA, no country won more gold medals than the British. Fast forward one year to another multi-event Games and the flow of medals has dried up. It was not until day 4 of The World Games 2017, that Great Britain gained its first piece of silverware. In the mixed pair all around final of acrobatic gymnastics, Lewis Walker and Katherine Williams snatched bronze after a mistake by the Portuguese couple.

British fortunes could take a turn for the better in the next couple of days; Naomi Folkard, defending champion of The World Games in the archery recurve, draws back her bow this afternoon  in the semi final match against Austria's Laurence Baldauff with the gold medal being decided a couple of hours later. Will Asher the two time water ski slalomWorld Champion has been in action today, with high hopes of featuring on the podium later in the week.
