Presidents review TWG progress

A meeting between IOC President Thomas Bach and IWGA President José Perurena was held at the IOC Headquarters in Lausanne on 13th March. President Perurena was able to update Dr Bach on the final outcomes and what was learnt from The World Games 2017. “It was a pleasure to hand over all the reports and surveys from last year’s Games in Wroclaw, Poland,” said Perurena.

At the same time, he informed the IOC about the progress in organising The World Games 2021 in Birmingham, Alabama. President Bach was delighted to hear about the high professional level of the Birmingham Organising Committee already at this stage, and that the 2021 Sports Programme will be announced during the Annual General Meeting in April 2018 in Bangkok.

The IWGA President handed a hard-copy of the Bidding Document for The World Games 2025 to Dr Bach. Together they discussed the timeline and opportunities for cities to host this youth-orientated and exciting event.

Further on in the meeting, the Presidents discussed opportunities for further cooperation for the benefit of the International Federations, e.g. in the areas of media and marketing education. This should enable the federations to be better prepared to make the most of their future successes, either at The World Games or in their own events.

The next opportunity for the two Presidents to meet will be during the SportAccord Convention. It was agreed that the IOC will be represented at the IWGA Annual General Meeting which will take place on Monday 16th April.
