Wakeboard World Championships in Mexico

Over 200 Wakeboard riders from 29 countries will compete in International Waterski & Wakeboard Ferderation’s (IWWF) 2015 Wakeboard World Championships. The event, starting on Tuesday, is one of the IWWF qualifying competitions for The World Games 2017 in Wroclaw/Poland.

The World Championships will take place at the spectacular new Maytan Watersports Complex in Cancun/Mexico until 31 October. Held every two years, the competition will be one of the biggest events on the international IWWF calendar. For the first time, Mexico will host these championships. For the first time an IWWF World-titled event, cash purse will be available for Open Riders totaling 50,000 US Dollars.

At the previous IWWF Wakeboard World Championships held in 2013 in the Republic of Korea, Australia won the team over all Gold medal. Rain Merrit (USA) captured the Open Women’s category. She was ranked two at TWG2009 in Kaohsiung/Chinese Taipei. Harley Clifford (USA) won the Open Men’s category in Korea. Both defending Wakeboard World Champions will be hot favorites to retain their coveted titles this year. But with rising competitions standards worldwide, this will be a tougher challenge than ever.
