Three in a Row: When Team Sweden Men’s Floorball was crowned again at TWG 2025

Team Sweden once again proved why they sit at the very top of international Floorball, as the Swedish men’s team claimed gold at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China, last summer.

In a tightly contested final, Sweden edged past Finland, while Czech Republic secured the bronze medal. The victory marked Sweden’s third consecutive men’s title at The World Games, after 2017 and 2022, underlining a remarkable era of dominance for the blue and yellow.

Adding to the nation’s strong showing, the Swedish women’s team also delivered an impressive campaign, clinching the silver medal and reinforcing Sweden’s overall strength in the sport.

Speaking in a recent interview, Team Sweden captain Niklas Ramirez emphasised that sustained success comes from mindset rather than legacy.

“We always put high expectations and pressure on ourselves, but we never see ourselves as defending champions—only as a team that has to prove itself every time,” Ramirez said.

“Humility, hunger and respect for our opponents drive us forward. That daily intensity and accountability are what allow us to sustain a consistently high level across multiple editions.”

In the gold-medal match against Finland, Sweden struck early, setting the tone with aggressive attacking phases and sharp ball movement. Ramirez revealed that the opening approach was deliberate and emotionally charged.

“Our plan was to start with high intensity and early pressure to set the tempo,” he explained. “After the last World Championship final, there was a strong sense of motivation and redemption that gave us an extra edge.”

Once Sweden established a two-goal lead, discipline became the priority.

“We focused on structure, communication and smart game management,” Ramirez noted. “The goalkeeping on both sides was at a very high level, which kept the game tight, but we stayed true to our principles.”

Finland’s late push in the final period tested Sweden’s composure, yet the defending champions never wavered.

“We stayed focused on the next action and trusted our structure fully rather than reacting to the scoreline,” Ramirez said. “We’ve learned never to relax with a lead, and because we train for these situations, we felt confident handling the pressure.”

Looking back on the tournament, Ramirez pointed to the semifinal against Czech Republic as the defining moment of Sweden’s resilience. After conceding late, Sweden responded decisively in overtime.

“That response reflected our confidence, resilience, and the strength of our collective,” he said. “We came together as a new group, with many championship debutants and new leadership, united by a shared ambition.”

Beyond the court, the experience of competing at The World Games in Chengdu left a lasting impression on the Swedish captain.

“The multisport atmosphere made us feel part of something bigger,” Ramirez reflected. “The organisation, facilities and opening ceremony were outstanding, and sharing the environment with other athletes strengthened the pride of representing Sweden.”

He closed with a message of gratitude to the hosts.

“A heartfelt thank you to the people of China. We are deeply grateful for the kindness, enthusiasm and love you showed us, and for your incredible support throughout the tournament.”
