First athletes qualified for The World Games 2022

While most of the sports have had to postpone their qualifications for The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama, some already know who will be taking part in the multisport event when The World Games returns to the United States for the first time since the inaugural edition in Santa Clara, California, in 1981.

Some or all qualifications have been held in eight sports. Lacrosse, Flying Disc and Korfball have concluded their qualifications. Below, you can see which countries will be competing for gold in Birmingham!

In Softball, all the qualifiers but one have been decided. The last team will be decided at the 2021 European Championships. Country allocations for Petanque (Boules sports) and Rhythmic Gymnastics, Trampoline and Tumbling have also been concluded, while the other Gymnastics disciplines will have their qualifications later this year.

In Muaythai, which debuted at The World Games in 2017, four athletes can already prepare for 2022. One of the already-qualified athletes is the winner of the Men’s 63.5 category from 2017, Igor Liubchenko (UKR). He could become the first Muaythai double-winner at The World Games!

Four Archery World Champions have also qualified for the 2022 Games. Of them, Germany’s Lisa Unruh and Sweden’s Lina Björklund are seeking their second gold medals at the Games, while Sweden’s Erik Jonsson already has two – the earlier won 20 years ago at The World Games 2001 in Akita, Japan.

Next qualification events for The World Games 2022 are originally scheduled for the end of April and the end of May 2021: three Finswimming events that count to the overall ranking system used for qualification, and the 16th FIG Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan. When it is confirmed that the qualification events will be held, you can read more about them on our platforms. For Target Archery, a World Ranking Event in Colombia 3-9 May and the European Championships in Turkey 31 May will serve as continental qualifiers.
