Agata Sitko is still a junior, but she won Powerlifting gold in Women’s Heavyweight category with a new World Record at The World Games 2022! In May this year, Sitko (19) broke five world records when winning gold at the European Junior Equipped Powerlifting Championships, and in June, she was the runner-up at the Powerlifting Open World Championships. Now she is The World Games champion.
More than deservedly, she is our female Athlete of the Day!
While The World Games in Birmingham, Alabama were Sitko’s first, for Volodymyr Rysiev (UKR) they were his third – and his results curve is rising: in 2013 he placed 5th, in 2017 he won silver, and this year he won The World Games gold in Men’s Powerlifting, Heavyweight, convincingly ahead of Ian Bell from Virgin Islands, USA. The 40-year-old has several World Championship titles already, but to win gold at The World Games after such a challenging time for sports in Ukraine is an achievement in its own class!

The World Games is a multi-sport event staged every four years by the International World Games Association, organised with the support of the International Olympic Committee. The 11th edition of The World Games will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, 7-17 July 2022. 3,600 athletes from 34 sports and over 100 countries will take part in The World Games.
