Art to Make the Mark on TWG 2022

The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, USA, and several corporate partners have teamed up to host an art competition for Alabama high school students. First-place winners will have their artwork sold worldwide as The World Games posters.

All proceeds from the sales of the posters will go toward the Birmingham Promise, a nonprofit organization. Birmingham Promise offers City School students college scholarships as well as a chance to gain paid work experience through internships and apprenticeships.

The World Games 2022 will welcome 3,600 elite athletes and visitors from more than 100 countries 7–17 July 2022. The Games represent a unique opportunity for Alabamians to play host to a global audience and demonstrate the hospitality and generosity of The Magic City.

Alabama Power, Brasfield and Gorrie, Coca-Cola and Viva Health are the companies working with Birmingham Organizing Committee (BOC) to make the art contest a reality.

Kathy Boswell, Executive Vice President of Community and Volunteer Engagement for TWG2022 said: “We are making sure The World Games 2022 is not only an incredible international sports competition but also a catalyst for lasting, positive change in the lives of people. The high school art competition joins a host of initiatives. These are for examples education, disability inclusion, sustainability and small business opportunity. The World Games and our partners have created these initiatives to ensure this event leaves a legacy of improvements that touch everyone.”

Alabama students in grades 9-12 can compete in the competition by submitting their artwork focused on one of three themes:

●    The World is Coming!
●    Sustainability
●    Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Each theme will have a first-place prize of $500 and have their artwork sold worldwide, a second-place prize of $250, and a third-place prize of $100. All winners will also receive TWG 2022 merchandise and event tickets.

Eligible mediums for the contest include photography, mixed media, and digital.

Submissions will be accepted until 31 January 2022. The contest is available to all Alabama public, private, and home school students in grades 9-12. A panel of judges will announce winners in February.
