It was their fourth such title (after 2006, 2010 and 2012). Brazil also won the Gold Medal in Cali, Colombia, at The World Games 2013. Coach of the team is Antonio Guerra-Peixa.

A thrilling match against the European Champions Croatia led the squad from the host country to their third World title in a row. Croatia led after the first half, but Brazil came back into business, found their best form and won the second period. Shootouts had to decide the tournament. The Brazilian “goalkeeper” Diogo Vieira became the man of the match. In his real life on the beach he is an offensive player. But with his height of 207 cm he surprised the Croatian shooter and saved three shots. This was the result that led to a carnival, in a packed stadium on the beach of Recife.
