Gold medallist Laura Fernanda Burgos López of Mexico—who captured the women’s -54 kg Muaythai title at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu on 10 August—has been honoured at CONADE’s Best of Mexican Sport 2025ceremony, held this week at the National Centre for High Performance (CNAR).
The ceremony, led by Mexico’s Minister of Sports Rommel Pacheco, celebrated the country’s most accomplished athletes across Olympic and internationally recognised sports. Burgos, one of Mexico’s most decorated Muaythai athletes, received official financial incentives in recognition of her outstanding achievements at the IFMA World Championships and other major multi-sport events.
Burgos has risen to become a national icon in Muaythai, earning a remarkable list of international titles, including:
- IFMA World Championship gold in 2024 and 2025
- The World Games 2025 Champion (women’s -54kg)
- King’s Cup Champion
- Winner of the Emmy-nominated series The Challenger
Her success has not only elevated Muaythai’s profile across Mexico but has also inspired a new generation of athletes entering the sport.
