A golden Sunday awaits fans of The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China. On the third day of competition—the busiest day of the Games—no fewer than 48 medal events across 13 sports will be decided. With competitions held in a total of 23 sports, fans are spoiled for choice and can select their favourites to watch live at theworldgames.live.org.
Canoe
Dragon boat racing, perhaps the most traditionally Chinese sport alongside Wushu, could make history on Sunday thanks to an extraordinary performance by Myanmar. The Myanmar team has a chance to achieve a clean sweep, winning five gold medals across five races—a feat only matched once before in The World Games history, when China’s badminton athletes swept all five golds in 1981. The dragon boat races start at 9 a.m. Chengdu time (UTC+8).
Tug of War
In a similar pursuit of dominance, the women’s Tug of War team from Chinese Taipei remains unbeaten since TWG 2005 in Duisburg, Germany. They have never lost a pull or a match and are poised to secure their sixth consecutive gold medal, with the final scheduled for 1 p.m.
Gymnastics
Bryony Page of Great Britain could join an elite group of athletes who have won gold at both the Olympics and The World Games. The 34-year-old gymnast made history by securing Britain’s first-ever Olympic gold in trampolining at Paris 2024. Now, in Chengdu, she aims for gold again—this time in the Women’s Synchronized Trampoline event alongside Isabelle Songhurst, starting at 8:25 p.m.
If successful, Page will share a unique bond with karateka Sandra Sanchez from Spain, who won gold in Women’s Kata at TWG 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama, also as a reigning Olympic champion. While Sanchez is not competing in Chengdu, she remains active as chairwoman of the IWGA Athletes Commission.
For those drawn to the excitement of a gold rush and the stirring sound of national anthems, head to the Chengdu Sport University Sancha Lake Campus Natatorium. Eight medal ceremonies will take place within just 100 minutes, starting at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Softball
Team sport enthusiasts should not miss the men’s softball final at 1 p.m.—a historic moment as men’s softball returns to the Games for the first (and so far only) time since the inaugural event in 1981. This year, the USA faces Japan in a thrilling rematch reminiscent of the 2022 women’s final, where the USA triumphed over Japan. After impressively defeating World Champion Venezuela 7-0 on Friday, the U.S. team aims to claim another victory.
The World Games continue to celebrate sporting diversity with 23 disciplines featured on Sunday’s program (out of 34 in total). Several sports will make their debut at TWG 2025, including Billiards and Ju-jitsu. Additionally, athletes in Free Diving (including Para Diving) will make their first-ever appearance both in Chengdu and in The World Games history, starting at 10 a.m.
Finally, it’s time to say farewell—or as the locals say, Zaijian—as the wakeboarding and Muaythai competitions conclude their events at TWG Chengdu 2025.
