Lausanne, Switzerland – 13 May 2025 – The International World Games Association (IWGA) has officially entered into an Anti-Doping Service Agreement with the International Testing Agency (ITA) to ensure a world-class and fully compliant anti-doping programme for The World Games 2025, set to take place in Chengdu, China, from 7-17 August 2025.
The agreement, signed on 30 April 2025 in Madrid by the IWGA, the Executive Committee of The World Games 2025 Chengdu, and the ITA, confirms a joint commitment to clean sport and the highest standards of anti-doping practices.
Under this agreement, the ITA will deliver an independent, expert-led, and Code-compliant Anti-Doping programme covering all aspects of testing, education, and results management for the upcoming Games. The ITA brings extensive and recognised experience in implementing clean sport programmes for a wide range of international multisport events, including leading the Olympic anti-doping program since 2018. In addition, the ITA has already successfully collaborated with the Chinese Anti-Doping Agency (CHINADA) on several occasions for the delivery of anti-doping operations, including during the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 and the Asian Games Hangzhou 2022.
IWGA President José Perurena emphasised the importance of this collaboration: "The integrity of The World Games is paramount to the IWGA and our Member Federations. Partnering with the ITA underscores our firm commitment to fair competition and the protection of clean athletes across all sports featured in Chengdu 2025."
The ITA, a Swiss-based not-for-profit foundation, brings global expertise in anti-doping services to a growing number of International Federations and Major Event Organisers.
Its Director General, Benjamin Cohen, welcomed the partnership: “We are proud to support the IWGA and the Local Organising Committee in delivering a robust and transparent anti-doping programme for The World Games 2025. Our mission is to build trust in sport through independent and effective anti-doping solutions, and this agreement reflects our shared values with the IWGA. Notably, 25 of the 34 International Federations participating in TWG2025 are already collaborating with the ITA all year long, having entrusted us with the delivery of their anti-doping programmes or specific components thereof. This strong existing cooperation will help ensure seamless and consistent anti-doping operations in Chengdu.”
The Executive Committee of The World Games 2025 Chengdu, represented by Deputy Secretary General Wang Yi, will support the operational and financial delivery of the programme. The agreement reflects a collaborative framework in which IWGA maintains oversight, while the ExCo ensures smooth execution on the ground.
This partnership demonstrates a unified effort to uphold the integrity of The World Games and safeguard the health and rights of athletes. It reinforces the IWGA’s status as a committed signatory to the World Anti-Doping Code and a proactive promoter of clean sport.
