Squash: Advertising her Sport to the Paris Olympics

Simon Rösner and Camille Serme won gold for Germany and France, respectively, Friday night to bring the four-day Squash Championships in The World Games at the Hasta la Vista club to an exuberant close. A full house crowd at the world's biggest squash club cheered, clapped, stamped and whistled in appreciation of exhilarating rally after exhilarating rally on the all-glass showcourt, where medals were also won by Hong Kong and Malaysia - with France claiming an historic gold, silver and bronze set. Serme faced unexpected opponent Joey Chan, a 3/4 seed from Hong Kong who produced the event's biggest shock when she dethroned Nicol David, the three-time gold medallist, in a five-game semi-final. The match clearly took its toll on the left-hander as Serme swooped to victory in just 26 minutes, winning 11-4, 11-3, 11-4. "That's the best I could have expected," said the beaming French number one clutching the French flag. In the French success in the Games, Serme explained: "At the beginning of the week we didn't expect to do this well. We have tried to get into the Olympics three times now, so if Paris wins the 2024 bid, I hope this success will show that we have the chance to win medals."

Columbian Couples let the stars sparks up

The first DanceSport Champions of The World Games 2017 Wroclaw are Stevens Rebolledo Montano - Yinessa Ortega, COL. In a dramatic final at the Centennial Hall they have narrowly prevailed against fellow Colombians and defending The World Games Champions Jefferson Benjumea - Adriana Avila Molina. Third place went to the strong Italians Simone Sanfilippo Tabo - Serena Maso. The sparks jumped to public in attendance when the six finalists started to burn the floor at the virtually sold out Centennial Hall. Great atmosphere!

Canoe Polo: German women’s team with a perfect start.

The German women’s team made a strong start in quest to retain The World Games Canoe Polo crown. Germany is the only team with a perfect record in the women’s draw.
Current women’s World Champions, New Zealand, and France posted the only tied match of the day, clearing the way for Germany to sit clear on top of the leaderboard after four wins from as many outings. The Germans, who are attempting to retain The World Games title they won four years ago, beat Canada, Italy, Netherlands and host nation, Poland.  Canada is the only other team in the women’s draw to have won a match, leaving the race for the final semi-final spot wide open.

Muaythai: A Sad story turned into a good one

The first Muaythai athletes to take part in The World Games entered the rings at the Hala Orbita on Friday. And right on the first competition day, a sad story turned good for someone in the men’s 75kg division. The Ukrainian fighter who had qualified for TWG injured himself – playing soccer of all things – but his replacement Vasyl Sorokin stepped right in. He won against China’s Zhang Yongkhang in a convincing victory, putting his reach advantage to good use and firing in body kicks, followed by left hook combinations. The Polish crowd also had plenty to shout about in the ring, with Gabriela Kuzinwinska winning against Belarusian champion Liudmila Chislova on points. With her distinctive pink hair, Gabriela was looking to stand out and did so with a great display of mainly hand and elbow skills. The second competition day started on Saturday at 3 CET.
