IWGA and the International Federation of Sports Chiropractic forge ongoing strategic partnership in Birmingham (GBR)

With the objective to further develop their overall cooperation before and during The World Games (TWG), the International World Games Association (IWGA) and the International Federation of Sports Chiropractic (FICS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 10 April 2024 in Birmingham (GBR) as the entire sport community gets together at the SportAccord Convention for a week of networking involving global business leaders, host cities, International Federations and the industry’s vast range of stakeholders.

This agreement of paramount importance marks the first step to strengthen the relationship between the IWGA and the FICS for the benefit of the entire Sports Movement through sport chiropractic. Moving forward, volunteer chiropractors will continue to procure and offer care services to TWG athletes at IWGA events. The MoU outlines in details FICS commitment to provide sports chiropractic services during the IWGA’s showcase event.

Through this MoU, FICS is committed to forging increased collaborative work with the IWGA and its International Member Federations (IFs) in particular. FICS also collaborates with the IOC and aligns with the fundamental principles of the Olympic Movement.

Furthermore, this MoU with FICS outlines key responsibilities for both signing entities. The IWGA and FICS undertake to make every effort in their power to closely cooperate in areas such as communication and promotion around The World Games. Equally, the IWGA stands ready to promote FICS to other multi-sport events or event organisers, as and when relevant.

IWGA President José Perurena said: “The IWGA has yet again landed a strategic partnership with a key actor of the global sport community, the International Federation of Sports Chiropractic. Many chiropractors have volunteered to provide care since 2005, helping athletes to prepare and perform their best at The World Games. Their contribution makes a big difference in the athlete’s well-being, which is the most important factor for us all at the IWGA. FICS services are highly needed and appreciated. We are excited to formalise our long-term relationship with this organisation through this MoU.”

President of FICS, Dr. Martin Isaksson, expressed his deep gratitude for the partnership.

"FICS is committed to supporting the IOC and IWGA pillars of equity. This agreement further supports the FICS Mission that every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic. FICS is honoured to continue and expand our support to the IWGA, which is a testament to our shared commitment to the health and well-being of athletes.”

“The utilisation of FICS sports chiropractic at The World Games is a clear indication of the athletes' demand. The continued support of the IWGA has provided FICS with the opportunity to work with many of their member International Federations and events. FICS is truly appreciative of this continued support,” said Dr. Isaksson.

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 38 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
