The World Games is a multi-sport event staged every four years by the International World Games Association under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee. At The World Games, sports and disciplines that are not on the Olympic programme can showcase their best athletes.
Former World Games sports Badminton, Triathlon and Taekwondo became Olympic sports in 2000 and Beach Volleyball in 1996. Rugby made it to the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016 and Karate, Sport Climbing, Surfing and Baseball/Softball will be present in Tokyo 2020.
The 10th edition of The World Games will be held in Wroclaw, Poland, 20–30 July 2017. Over 3,000 athletes from 31 sports and over 110 countries will take part in the Games. The Games are shown 24/7 on the Olympic Channel. The World Games 2021 will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA.
