Mayor-elect excited about TWG 2021

The city of Birmingham, Alabama, has elected a new mayor: Randall Woodfin will take office on 28th November. Woodfin, 36, will be the youngest mayor of Alabama's largest city since David Fox took office in 1893, also at age 36. The former school board president defeated incumbent mayor William A. Bell, who has served as mayor since 2010.

Randall Woodfin is a lawyer who previously served as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Birmingham. Born and raised in Birmingham, Woodfin attended Shades Valley High School and Morehouse College, where he majored in political science and served as President of the Student Government Association. Woodfin went on to earn his law degree from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University.

Mayor-elect Woodfin says: “If we’re going to change Birmingham — if we’re going to make Birmingham work for all of its citizens, and be successful as a city over the long haul — our emphasis has to be on investing in our young people. Not just in education, but in all aspects of their lives, in every area that encourages and supports their growth and development and provides them with opportunities to be engaged in the ongoing growth of the city.”

He expresses his enthusiasm about The World Games coming to town in 2021:

“We are excited about The World Games 2021 being held in Birmingham. This is a great opportunity for our city to showcase our great people and southern hospitality. Much work has gone into making these games the best ever, and the International World Games Association will have the full support of the Woodfin Administration and the City of Birmingham.”
