Thomas Bach to open The World Games 2017

It is finally here, athletes and sports fans alike are eagerly looking forward to the commencement of The World Games 2017. The World Games features 3250 athletes from 111 nations across the world, who will over the next ten days compete in 31 different sports  (27 official sports and four invitational sports), spread across the host city of Wroclaw, seeking to be crowned The World Games champion in their chosen sport.

The first medallist will be known at 17:04 on Friday 21st July when the first final concludes in the women's finswimming competition. The World Games will kick off at 7pm with a spectacular opening ceremony at the Wroclaw Stadium on 20th July, which will be opened by special guest of honour IOC President Thomas Bach.

Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony of The World Games 2017 will take place in the Wroclaw Stadium at 7pm on Thursday 20th July. The athletes and fans will be welcomed to Wroclaw, the beautiful capital of Lower Silesia region of Poland by dignitaries including IOC President Thomas Bach, International World Games Association President Jose Perurena, and Polish Sports Minister Witold Barika.

There then follows a spectacular show put together by artistic director Krzysztof Materna, with musical contributions from Dawid Kwiatowski, Radzimir Debski, Steve Nash and The Turntable Orchestra, Kamil Bednarek, Igor Herbut and Lemon,and French band BeMY. The show has the aim of “presenting Wroclaw, Silesia and Poland in the best possible way.”
