The World Games goes to Weibo

In the lead up to The World Games 2022, to be held from 7th to 17th July in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, the International World Games Association has strengthened its social media presence by joining the Chinese social media platform Weibo.

“We have known for a long time that we should enter the Chinese social media market. Not only is China an important country for us, with Chinese athletes widely present at The World Games, but also our next edition will be held in Chengdu, China, in 2025. We have chosen to start the promotion for this with the platform Weibo. It took us a while to get the account verified and up and running, but now we are there, and so now you can follow our activities on Weibo too,” says IWGA Communication Officer Anna Jacobson.

The LinkedIn profile for The World Games has also now been taken into active use, and TikTok will be used more for active communication before and during The World Games. “All in all, we know that the majority of our audience is following one or more social media channels in different countries and on different continents. We of course want to be where our audience is!” concludes Jacobson.

The World Games is a multi-sport event staged every four years by the International World Games Association, organised with the support of the International Olympic Committee. The 11th edition of The World Games will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, 7-17 July 2022. 3,600 athletes from 34 sports and over 100 countries will take part in The World Games.
