The World Games athletes take over!

One of the aims of The World Games is to promote the athletes, as well as to give them centre stage in an international multi-sport event. From September 2020 onwards, athletes will be given centre stage in a whole new way on social media: each Tuesday, an athlete from The World Games family will take over The World Games Instagram stories for the day! This way, fans can get to see what a day in an athlete’s life looks like, and athletes from other sports can compare their days – and get to know fellow athletes who they will meet at The Games!

The World Games Athlete of January 2020, Trampoline star Ruben Padilla (USA), got the honour of starting the one-day takeovers. On 22 September, The World Games winner in Artistic Roller Skating, Luca Lucaroni (ITA), showed the world his day and answered questions from his followers. For example, he responded that his favourite moment of The World Games 2017 – where he won gold – was the Opening Ceremony. 29 September, Kickboxer Sarel de Jong (NED) revealed her day to the world.

Past stories can be seen as highlights in The World Games Instagram profile and new stories will become visible to all followers on Tuesday mornings.

The World Games is a multi-sport event staged every four years by the International World Games Association under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee. The 11th edition of The World Games will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, 7-17 July 2022. 3,600 athletes from over 30 sports and 100 countries will take part in The World Games.
