Athlete of the Month: Sofia Olofsson, Sweden

Congratulations to Sofia Olofsson, IWGA Athlete of the Month for May 2016. On Sunday, the Muaythai fighter from Sweden won the gold medal (weight class 54 kg) at the IFMA Muaythai World Championships in Jönköping/Sweden.

IFMA announced that Sofia Olofsson will be selected as best Female athlete at the World Championships in her homeland, too. Sofia Olofsson became the first woman to qualify for The World Games 2017 in Wroclaw/Poland after winning the gold medal at the IFMA Muaythai Royal World Cup last August in Bangkok/Thailand. The new World Champion is looking forward to competing in Poland as she has recently shown on Facebook

The Ffederation reported onabout Sofia’s final fight in Jönköping on Sunday: “The home crowd really lifted the roof for Sweden’s Sofia Olofsson in the ring against Russia’s Natalia Diachkova. This was a great fight between two aggressive and skillful boxers, with Sofia really driving home her fast hand combinations from the first bell. Natalia seemed more comfortable in the grapple, but Sweden took the bout on points in the end.”

The Muaythai fighter, winner of the Queen’s trophy in 2015, has not only become a sporting legend in the world of Muaythai but also in her homeland, Sweden. She promoted the event in Sweden as an ambassador.
