TWG 2022 welcomes newly-qualified athletes

Summer 2021 has seen many new athletes and countries qualifying for The World Games 2022. World Championships along with qualifying events for Birmingham in Orienteering and Finswimming took place in July 2021, and more archers qualified for the Games in June. The final qualifying country for Softball was also decided this summer: Italy won the European Championships and made it to the boat to Birmingham next year. Also Fistball qualifications have been concluded.

Country allocations for Petanque (Boules sports) and Rhythmic Gymnastics, Trampoline and Tumbling have also been concluded, while the other Gymnastics disciplines will have their qualifications later this year.

Fistball fans will see the following teams compete for gold in Birmingham: Women: Austria, Brazil, Germany, New Zealand, Switzerland and the United States and Men: Austria, Brazil, Chile, Germany, Italy, Namibia, Switzerland and the United States.

While we are still awaiting the list of qualified Finswimming athletes, the qualifications for Orienteering are well under way. In orienteering competitions, there are spots for 40 men and 40 women to participate in The World Games 2022.

Two teams were already qualified for The World Games before this summer: USA as the host nation and Canada gaining the regional place allocated for North America. They will both participate with 2 men and 2 women.

Based upon the World Championships 2021 results, the following nations have also qualified and will participate with 2 men and 2 women: Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Norway, Poland, Russia, Sweden and United Kingdom. Regional qualifying spots for the Oceania, Asia and South America regions will be determined by the end of January 2022.

Personal qualifying spots have been allocated to Tove Alexandersson (SWE), as reigning World Champion at Sprint, Middle and Long, and to Isac von Krusenstierna (SWE), Matthias Kyburz (SUI) and Kasper Harlem Fosser (NOR) as reigning Sprint, Middle and Long World Champions respectively.

Discretionary qualifying spots have been allocated to the following athletes: women: Salma Hassan Abdelaziz (EGY), Sandra Grosberga (LAT), Eef van Dongen (NED), Evely Kaasiku (EST), Olena Babych (UKR) and men: Yannick Michiels (BEL), Tim Robertson (NZL), Ruslan Glibov (UKR). Of the newly qualified athletes, Yannick Michiels will present his training day today, on 20 August in The World Games Instagram Story Takeover “Follow My Friday”.

Qualification for The World Games continues throughout 2021 and early 2022. Next upcoming qualification events are planned to take place in August 2021 in Muaythai, Sport Climbing, Inline Hockey and Archery.

The World Games 2022 will be organised 7–17 July 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama, USA with 3,600 athletes from 34 sports and over 100 countries.

 The World Games is a multi-sport event staged every four years by the International World Games Association under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee. The 11th edition of The World Games will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, 7-17 July 2022. 3,600 athletes from over 30 sports and 100 countries will take part in The World Games.
