Meet the TWG 2021 Staff

A small team, yes, but one which brings a huge amount of experience to running big events successfully: CEO DJ Mackovets, Sport Director Steve Mistrot and Operations Director Jay B Hall have a combined 17 years of management-level experience with multi-sport events.

Right now there are three officials setting up the preparations for The World Games 2021. They bring in the knowledge from being involved in quite a large number of high-level events, including three Olympic Games, two U.S. Olympic Festivals, World University Games, World Police & Fire Games, the Goodwill Games, and four U.S. National Senior Games. This is in addition to leading roles with dozens of other major events, notably four Super Bowls, three NCAA Final Four Basketball Tournaments, U.S. Figure Skating Championships, PGA Tours and multiple other major golf tournaments.

Let’s look a little bit closer at the three people in charge of delivering an outstanding 12th edition of The World Games, to be staged from 15 to 25 July 2021:

CEO DJ Mackovets will lead his 6th Organising Committee Team in preparing The World Games 2021 in Birmingham, whilst overseeing The Games as a whole.

Sport Director Steve Mistrot is responsible for competition ‘Field of Play’ delivery as well as being the quarterback for all International Federations.

Operations Director Jay B Hall is responsible for the operations of The World Games, from transportation to image, from city-wide décor to venue management, and not least for safety and security for all aspects of the Games, while supporting Sports Director Steve Mistrot.

After the first official meeting with the core team of the Birmingham Organising Committee the IWGA CEO Joachim Gossow commented: “We created a great atmosphere with frank and honest discussions. These were based on well-prepared presentations on all items. In running through the whole agenda we learned that we can cooperate with a team which is fully aware of the challenges and is willing to face these issues.”
