The first gold ever for Iran

The first gold ever for Iran

The best Polish hope for a gold medal on the second competition day of The World Games 2017 in Wroclaw vanished in the semi-final of the speed climbing completion at the Nowy Tarq Square. Marcin Dzienski had a false start in his race against Reza Alipourshenazandifar. The climber from Iran won the final afterwards as his opponent Danyil Boldyrev (Ukraine) had a false start as well. It was the first gold medal for Iran in The World Games history.

It might have comforted the soul of the Polish fans that Magdalena Macios won a bronze medal in the Women’s Lightweight Sumo competition, beating Okutomi Yuko from Japan. Her teammate Pawel Woyda also won bronze in the men’s lightweight discipline.  So it was not all bad for the host country of the 10th edition of the multi-sports event.

But it was an even better day for Russia winning four gold medals on the sumo dojo. Batyr Altyev, Atsamaz Kaziev, Vasilii Margiev and Anna Poliakova were the best wrestlers in their weight classes at the Orbiata Hall. And it was a good day for Simon Albrecht as well. After winning a gold medal yesterday (the Men's Time Trial 300m Final) the speed skater from Germany was crowned World Games Champion again. This time he achieved the title in the Track Men’s 500m Sprint Race at the Millenium Park venue. Can we expect even more from the German athlete? He is scheduled for six more competitions until Tuesday.

Sometimes The World Games give you a lesson. We’re pretty sure that most people do not know that you can achieve a world record in Boules! But the Italian team in the Raffa discipline did by scoring 67 points in the preliminary round today.

The second competition saw lots more world records. The best life savers set five new WR on Saturday.  Who were the most successful at the Orbita Pool? Check out here… What we are willing to reveal: athletes from France, Germany, Italy, and the relays from Belgium and Germany enjoyed not only the amazing atmosphere at the venue on this Saturday. We can also tell you that the Polish men’s 4-25m relay team earned a silver medal!
