A Kaohsiung city official is quoted in a news report about Mayor Chen Chu's appearance before the Executive Yuan, the executive branch of Taiwan's government, on 6 February.
According to the report, Chen met with Premier Liu Chao-shiuan to brief him on the city's budget allocation and preparations for The World Games 2009, and she urged the Cabinet to pay the national government's share of the total budget.
Under the city government's plan, it earmarks NT$1.98 billion (US$58.67 million) for the international sports event slated to open on 16 July, with the central and local governments each sharing half of the cost.
Emily Cho-chuan Hsu, chief executive officer of the Kaohsiung Organizing Committee (KOC) , and many other KOC staff members were also present at the meeting.
