Decisive Week Ahead
After the succession has been decided on by awarding The World Games 2017 to Wroclaw, POL, the focus of the International World Games Association turns to the current Host City once more.
Cali, COL, stands poised to launch the 18-months countdown to The World Games 2013 with a series of high-profile events scheduled next week.
The biggest bang of all should be created by a ceremony at the Coliseum Evangelista Mora on Wednesday, 25 January, at 19:00 local time. Colombia's President Juan Manuel Santos will be present for the start of the countdown in Cali.
President Santos will join the newly elected Mayor of Cali, Rodrigo Guerrero Velasco, the Governor of the Cauca Valley region, Héctor Fabio Useche, and other political leaders in an affirmation of institutional support to The World Games 2013.
More than 20 official delegations representing different National Olympic Committees (NOC) from around the world will also participate in the ceremony and attend the first meeting of the NOC Chefs de Mission on the following day.
Also scheduled for next week is the announcement of changes to the structure and the staffing of the Cali Local Organizing Committee (CLOC) for The World Games 2017. After Mayor Guerrero came into office, he announced his visions for the games to bring confidence to the city.
“Cali is top, the games are top ... Hosting them is the best way to strengthen the self-esteem of the city. Organizing and delivering them in an exemplary manner will make us realize that we are capable of doing great things,” Guerrero said.
In a meeting with the sports ministry COLDEPORTE and several other political as well as sporting authorities on 11 January, Mayor Guerrero outlined the views of his administration for the restructure of CLOC and the appointment of a new CLOC chairman.
The President and the CEO of the International World Games Association join members of CLOC during the first Coordinating Commission Meeting of 2012, which is also scheduled for next week.
