TWG 2017 Ambassador Marcin Dzienski

The Wrocław Organizing Committee has announced Marcin Dzienski as the next ambassador of The World Games 2017 in a Press Conference in Warsaw on 23.2.2017.

Sport Climber Marcin Dzienski, called “Sport Climbing’s Usain Bolt” by the Olympic Channel, topped the IFSC Speed rankings and became the first Polish Sport Climbing World Champion in 2016. After the victory, he wrote on his Facebook page: "I have got it all, but now it is time for something even bigger – The World Games 2017." Now he has been announced as the next ambassador for The World Games 2017.

“I am really honoured to receive The World Games 2017 Ambassador title. The World Games is the most important event for me right now and for the entire climbing community. I want to compete and deliver in Poland, in front of fans from my home country and from all around the world.  I take this opportunity to praise the decision of staging the competition in Wroclaw’s historic city center. Can’t imagine anything better than that! It will be truly spectacular.”

The year 2016 was a real break-through for the 24-year-old Marcin Dzienski. Having won a World Cup event once before (2014), he won three World Cup rounds and the World Championships in Speed Climbing in 2016. The ambassador’s advice to young athletes is: “Never give up, be yourself, do what you love and do it with love.”

In the IWGA Athlete of the Year 2016 vote, Dzienski received an impressive number of votes, 12,499, and finished second after Muaythai fighter Sofia Olofsson (SWE).

Marcin Dzienski joins the team of Ambassadors of The World Games 2017 that already includes:

  • Maciej Janowski, speedway, captain of the Polish national team, World Champion (Team)
  • Anna Lewandowska, former karate champion and popular personal trainer
  • Mariusz Czerkawski, former NHL player
  • Zbigniew Bródka, speed skater and rollerskater, Olympic Champion
  • Renata Mauer-RóżaÅ„ska, Two Times Olympic Champion, shooting
  • PaweÅ‚ RaÅ„da, rower, Olympic silver medallist
  • MichaÅ‚ TuryÅ„ski, kickboxer, World Champion
  • Maja KuczyÅ„ska - Indoor Skydiving Junior World Champion
  • Artur Siódmiak - handball, former member of polish national handball team, two-time world championship medallist

The World Games 2017 take place 20–30 July 2017 in Wroclaw, Poland, with 31 sports and more than 4,000 athletes from more than 100 countries present.
