Sportcal to undertake Study on TWG

The IWGA has signed a one-year agreement for Sportcal to undertake an Advanced GSI Event Study on The World Games 2017 taking place in Wrocław, Poland, 20-30 July this year. The study will report on the impact of the event has across a wide range of sectors.

IWGA President, José Perurena, said: "I am very pleased to sign the contract with Sportcal. I am convinced that we will host a great event in Poland with a huge impact on the community and with global coverage, but it will be important to have a survey to measure the results, both for the benefit of the current hosts, the future hosts and the IWGA. As the bidding process for The World Games 2025 is starting after this year’s Games, this information is crucial to us."

Sportcal, the world's leading provider of sports market intelligence, will conduct the study as part of the GSI Event Studies Programme which runs from 2017 through to 2020.

Sportcal will work in collaboration with key stakeholders involved in staging the event, including IWGA; Wroclaw Organising Committee; sponsors; broadcasters and any third party organisations to gather, assimilate, analyse and compare the data and narrative around the event.

Mike Laflin, CEO and Founder of Sportcal and the GSI Project, stated: "We are delighted to be working with IWGA on The World Games in Wroclaw in 2017. This will be one of the stand-out events of the year. The concept of sustainability is at the heart of the The World Games, and this event will deliver a huge range of impacts to the city of Wroclaw, and to the Polish nation."

In 2017, the World Games features 27 sports on the official programme, and four invitational sports, selected by the host city. Approximately 4,500 athletes from over 100 countries will participate in the Games.

Approximately 120 nations are expected to receive television coverage of the event, while coverage will also be shown on the Olympic Channel.

GSI Event Studies Programme 2017-2020

Sportcal is embarking upon a four-year programme during the 2017-2020 Olympic cycle, which will bring federations, rights owners, host cities, governments and key stakeholders together to work with Sportcal and engage in the GSI Project.

The programme will involve the development of annual studies from a diverse range of sports and events, to help event owners and hosts understand the true impact of their events across a wide range of sectors, and to support them in the further development of their event strategies.
