Polish Olympic Committee thanked its athletes

WARSAW (19/09/2013). On Wednesday at the headquarters of the Polish Olympic Committee, Polish medal winners from The World Games 2013 in Cali were greeted by the POC President Andrzej Krasnicki, representatives of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism as well as hosts of the next The World Games 2017 to be held in Wrocław.

M2.3The meeting was held to thank the best of the Polish team who received highest awards in Ju-Jitsu, Powerlifting and Canoe Marathon. All five athletes stressed that they are very happy that in four years this great event will be held in Poland. Coaches were of course also saluted as an important part in any athlete's success.

the Minister of Sport and Tourism Joanna Mucha with Wroclaw's Mayor Rafal Dutkiewicz were giving a farewell and wishing all athletes success. "I was in Cali and I confirm that the event which was on television all over the world, is a great endeavour and that the arenas were filled with fantastic fans. Those were games of friendship and happiness. I am sure that in 2017 in Wroclaw The World Games will be a great success", said Polish Olympic Committee President Andrzej Krasnicki.

Mr. Tomasz Polgrabski from the Ministry of Sport informed that the Ministry is preparing a special program which will support Polish athletes to compete in 2017. The program will be established in cooperation with the national federations of sports of The Word. He added that the Ministry will work together with the host city for the event to be our common success. "I would like to stress that the Ministry of Sport and Tourism will not leave Wrocław alone", Tomasz Polgrabski underlined.


In his speech, Mayor Rafal Dutkiewicz reminded that Cali provided a festival of sport where half a million tickets were sold. He also informed about the steps the organizing committee of Wroclaw is taking in the near future. "We already have the IWGA flag, our athletes brought back medals in all of the colours. Soon we want to organize a meeting with all the medalists in Wroclaw and ask these wonderful Polish team members to become ambassadors of The World Games 2017. By the end of this year, in consultation with the IWGA, we will select the five invitational sports."

The Mayor also thanked the Ministry for their engagement and support for the games. "Thanks to this cooperation we will have a beautiful swimming pool at Wejherowska Street, we will be able to modernize the Olympic Stadium, and thus our sports infrastructure will become even better", Mr. Dutkiewicz concluded.
